I’m not going to lie. I went into this movie, not knowing that it was factual. I mostly got into it because of an Eddie Vedder interview I read, saying what he felt making the soundtrack. Once I learned the truth, I gotta say, this movie won me over. It’s beautiful, moving, inspiring (in some way), and just plain good. A must-own for anyone who’s ever wanted to find something within themselves, but just couldn’t quite find it.
It is more a focus on his mindset to find himself than it is about why he failed to survive, for even at the cost of his own life he found himself, which most people can’t even say when they are old and grey and laying on their beds dying.
This is a brilliant movie. The story is so moving and inspiring. Watch it with close family and friends. Live life to the fullest. Carpe Diem.

The kid bumbles off into the woods underprepared, he autoDarwinates, and Sean Penn and the boys hold him up as some kind of hero. Sorry, I just don’t buy it
I read somewhere that had he kept his map, which he left with the man who dropped him off on the trail, then he would have known there was a hand-operated tram a quarter of a mile up from where he was based.
Tragic.
But a bloody brilliant film, very moving and poignant, with excellent acting, amazing soundtrack, and BREATHTAKING scenery.
10/10

I recommend reading the book first. Much more in depth and much closer to the truth.
it is rated R in the USA for swearing and nakedliness (mind you, almost anything is rated R in the US)
Hah, is that Katherine Keener from An American Crime?
And anyone know what this is rated?
